'Wohlau' Shoes - Size 38. Imagine walking into a German shoe store in the late 1930s and picking a fresh pair right off the shelf. That is exactly what this pair of 'Wohlau' lace-up shoes feels like. Preserved in breathtaking, deadstock MINT condition, they feature beautiful heavy-grained black leather that still shines like new. The leather soles are an absolute work of art, completely unworn and showcasing textbook period wood-pegged (Holznägel) construction with a crisply embossed oval Wohlau manufacturer logo on the waist. Inside, a vivid red factory stamp reads '3823 03 38' (size 38).While originally produced for civilian use, high-quality factory stocks like these were widely utilized for organizational outfitting, from the German Red Cross (DRK) to the Bund Deutscher Mädel (BDM) and Hitlerjugend (HJ). In the grim years following WW2, usable leather shoes became an extreme luxury item, often worn down to the bone or repurposed. The fact that this specific pair survived both the war and the post-war scarcity in pristine, brand-new condition is a minor miracle. A flawless, museum-grade display piece that simply cannot be upgraded.
