WWII British Royal Engineers Mark I Demolition Test Set - G. Bond & Co. Ltd. (Low Serial No. 540)An exceptional, untouched original British military Demolition Test Set Mk I, primarily utilized by the Royal Engineers and commando demolition squads during World War II for checking electrical blasting circuits, continuity, and exploder cell conditions. The heavy teak or mahogany wooden transit case is in beautiful, robust condition, retaining its vintage patina, secure front closure latches, and heavy corner reinforcements. Crucially, the top of the lid features its original, heavy brass manufacturer's identification plate, clearly marked: "TEST SET DEMOLITION MK. I. / G.B. & CO LTD / SER Nº 540 / HANDLE WITH CARE". This denotes a very scarce, highly desirable early production model manufactured under war contract by G. Bond & Co. Ltd., bearing an incredibly low serial number (540).The interior control panel is crafted from pristine black bakelite and features heavy rotary switches marked in Ohms, connection terminals, and its centrally mounted galvanometer/amperage dial. The inner lid securely holds both of its original, highly detailed black bakelite instruction panels ("HOW TO USE THE TEST SET" and "STORES CARRIED WITH THE TEST SET"), both remaining in perfectly crisp, undamaged condition. The original heavy-duty brown leather carrying handle on the side is present, though it has naturally torn/detached at one end due to age and the weight of the unit. The heavy internal wiring cables are included. An outstanding, highly tactile piece of British engineering and combat sabotage history, displaying magnificent research and collection value.
