This is an exceptional and highly desirable piece of early World War II aviation history. Produced in November 1939 during the "Phoney War" period, this original laminated wooden propeller was manufactured by the renowned Airscrew Company Ltd. in Weybridge for the iconic de Havilland Gipsy Major engine, most famously used to power the legendary RAF Tiger Moth trainer. These essential training aircraft played a pivotal role in the early stages of the war, as they were used to train the very young pilots who would shortly after find themselves fighting in the skies over France and defending the skies during the crucial Battle of Britain.The propeller is in a beautiful, untouched condition and retains its incredible historical character. Both sides of the wooden hub feature remarkably crisp and deeply stamped factory markings, providing a complete blueprint of its pedigree. One side proudly displays the "GIPSY MAJOR" engine designation along with the drawing number "DRG No D.H. 5258 / K / 11" and the "L.H.T." (Left Hand Tractor) directional stamp. The opposite side confirms its physical specifications with the diameter "D 5' - 10½"", the pitch "P 4' - 0"", the unique manufacturer serial code "AC 65247", and the production date "NOV / 39".Visually, the item is an absolute stunning display piece for any high-end militaria collection or industrial interior.
