This heavy, massy bronze instrument was originally utilized in coastal defense batteries or naval torpedo direction stations during the Great War era. This piece features a fascinating "two-tone" historical patina. While one side shows heavy, honest oxidation typical for a marine or saltwater environment salvage, the other side beautifully retains its original dark green field lacquer finish.Crucially, German precision engineering stands the test of time: the degree adjustment knob turns smoothly, the internal mechanism functions perfectly, and the ocular focusing ring at the eye-piece still operates with ease. The internal optics are blind/clouded due to its historical age and environmental exposure, making this an absolute premier static display piece. Deeply and clearly stamped into the heavy bronze casing is the official Imperial Navy property mark—a standalone large letter "M"—proving official military acceptance. Directly below, it is stamped with the maker's mark "Weda" and the incredibly low serial number "1785", indicating a highly limited contract production.
