Manufacture d'Armes de Châtellerault 1876. This exceptionally well-preserved French Modèle 1855/74 Cuirassier officer or enlisted man's heavy cavalry armor set stands as a prime example of late 19th-century military craftsmanship. Produced in May 1876 at the prestigious state arsenal of Châtellerault, the breastplate retains its crisp, elegant cursive factory engraving along the inner rim, denoting its exact serial number 2157, size classification, and inspector markings. While the set shows beautiful cleaning to the exterior steel, it retains a deep, honest patina on the interior surfaces, highlighting its historical integrity. Crucially, the highly sought-after brass-scaled shoulder straps remain fully intact with their original attachment rings, which is a rare occurrence given the fragility of these leather-backed components over time. Although the original leather waist belt has separated on one side, it comes complete with its authentic period buckle, making this a highly rewarding minor restoration project that will easily command top dollar among discerning European cavalry collectors.
