Original M39 backpack (Tornister), often nicknamed 'Affe' due to the cowhide flap. This is an early-war production example clearly stamped on the leather reverse with the manufacturer Franz Brehme, Walsrode and dated 1940. The backpack is completely intact with all original leather straps, buckles, and canvas components present. True to the M39 design shift, this model features the integral short straps with metal hooks meant for direct attachment to the combat Y-straps, instead of the long full-length shoulder straps. The cowhide on the flap remains in great condition with minimal hair loss. A very clean, complete example.
