ERMA Bakelite Tank Periscope

An original wartime-era prism periscope (Winkelspiegel) manufactured by Erfurter Maschinenfabrik (ERMA). This vision block features a molded brown Bakelite housing that remains in completely solid, undamaged condition with no cracks or major chips. The optical quality is excellent and clear, with both glass windows intact. An aiming cross is faintly etched into the left side of the glass. Looking closely at the condition, there are some typical light age and use marks on the exterior, minor oxidation spots inside the mirror, and the internal rubber seal has started to come slightly loose. True to its early-to-mid-war production, the distinctive ERMA logo is molded directly into the Bakelite body, and like many of these optical items, it features no individual serial numbers.

These protective periscopes were a crucial standard component for armored crews, providing a safe 360-degree battlefield view from inside the vehicle. This specific type was widely utilized in the commander’s cupolas, turrets, and observation ports of various German armored fighting vehicles, including the Panzer III, Panzer IV, Panther, Tiger tanks, Sturmgeschütz (StuG) assault guns, and various Sd.Kfz. armored personnel carriers.
