Luftwaffe Barrage Balloon Specialist Badge

An exceptionally rare and highly sought-after wartime-era trade specialty patch (Tätigkeitsabzeichen) worn by Luftwaffe Sperrballonpersonal (barrage balloon specialist personnel). The badge features a beautifully machine-embroidered observation/barrage balloon executed in light silver-grey cotton thread on a circular, blue-grey wool base. This specific combat-worn piece is a fantastic "character example," displaying an authentic wartime field repair. The patch suffered a horizontal tear across the center which was period-mended with neat horizontal stitching across the front, and further reinforced on the reverse with a vertically sewn-in strip of backing cloth to restore its structural integrity. The back also shows great overall age and clear evidence of being carefully removed from a uniform. A truly scarce specialist badge with an undeniable combat history.
