Wehrmacht M31 "Coconut" Canteen - Field-Repaired Barn Find
An original wartime German M31 tropical canteen (Labeflasche), famously referred to by collectors as the "Coconut" or "Afrikakorps" model. This textbook examples features a resin-infused wooden veneer outer body designed to insulate liquids in harsh environments. A genuine "barn find," the set is characterfully mismatched as is common with field-used equipment; the aluminum screw cap is maker-marked O.H.W. 39, while the main flask body is stamped HRE 42. The canteen is outfitted with its original late-war canvas webbing harness and retains both functional metal attachment clips. The small leather strap retaining the screw cap features an incredible, rugged period field repair with heavy hand-stitching. The black Bakelite nesting cup remains in excellent, undamaged condition. The small triangular metal tip at the end of the strap has detached due to age but is safely included with the set. An honest combat piece with undisputed frontline character.
