WWII German Luftwaffe Fighter Pilot Map Case - Jagdgeschwader 134 "Horst Wessel" (1938 Dated & Named)

A highly desirable and historically significant early-war German Luftwaffe M35 officer's map case (Meldekartentasche). This premium presentation piece is constructed from heavy, chocolate-brown pebbled leather, retaining great structural suppleness and a deep natural age patina. The interior of the case is exceptionally well-preserved, featuring the correct multi-compartment layout for documents, maps, and writing utensils. Crucially, it retains its two original brown leather pull-strings (treklinten) inside the compartments, designed to easily elevate maps and papers during flight or field operations. The rear side features the textbook wide leather belt loops with metal reinforcement rivets, all fully intact, strong, and functional. While the front external pull-strap was removed during its period of active service—a very common wartime modification—the main body, stitching, and interior remain in excellent, solid shape.

The interior flap exhibits a spectacular, historically complete ensemble of crisp factory and unit markings. It features the official L.B.A.(S) (Luftwaffenbekleidungsamt Stettin) procurement stamp alongside the explicit unit identifier: "J.G. I / 134 1938", tracing this case directly to the I. Gruppe of Jagdgeschwader 134 "Horst Wessel" during the pivotal pre-war build-up year of 1938 . This elite fighter wing flew early Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighters out of Dortmund before being reorganized in late 1938. Furthermore, the interior is personalized with the original owner's name written in fluent, period-correct Sütterlin ink, reading** "Leutnant Lindenberg"** . Archival research confirms Lindenberg was an active fighter pilot (Flieger) with the squadron. He later transitioned to fly the twin-engine Messerschmitt Bf 110 heavy fighters with Zerstörergeschwader 26 "Horst Wessel", seeing extensive combat action during the 1940 Blitzkrieg, the Battle of Britain, and Reich Defense operations. Over his decorated wartime career, an officer in this operational position typically earned both the Iron Cross 2nd and 1st Class (Eisernes Kreuz) and the Operational Flying Clasp (Frontflugspange). An outstanding, investment-grade example with elite fighter-pilot provenance.

Historical Context & Rarity:
The I. Gruppe of Jagdgeschwader 134 operated with a highly select front-line strength of only 36 to 40 active pilots. This makes any unit-stamped gear from this specific group statistically exceptionally rare. Furthermore, JG 134 served as a prominent breeding ground for some of the Luftwaffe's most famous future fighter aces. During this exact pre-war period, Leutnant Lindenberg flew shoulder-to-shoulder with legendary pilots such as Hannes Trautloft (57 victories, Knight's Cross), Siegfried Simsch (54 victories, Knight's Cross), Ludwig Becker (Nightfighter pioneer, Knight's Cross), and the renowned WWI ace Theodor "Theo" Osterkamp. An incredibly scarce and hard-documented piece of early fighter aviation history.
