WWII German Tropical Army Qualified Farrier Sleeve Badge - Mint DAK / Southern Front Issue (Hufschmied)
An exceptional, original German WWII specialist career proficiency sleeve badge (Tätigkeitsabzeichen) for a Qualified Army Farrier / Blacksmith (Gepr. Hufschmied / Hufbeschlagpersonal). Farriers played a critical tactical role in maintaining the mobility of the Wehrmacht’s vast horse-drawn transport columns and cavalry units.
This specific piece is a highly scarce, authentic tropical / Southern Front production variant. The iconic golden-yellow horseshoe design is beautifully machine-embroidered onto a textbook olive-drab / tan cotton-twill rib fabric (Drillich), explicitly manufactured for application onto lightweight tropical field blouses as utilized by the Afrikakorps (DAK) and Mediterranean forces.
Recovered straight from a recently discovered wartime German tailor’s archive (Schneidernachlass), the patch is in pristine, absolute mint warehouse condition with clean factory borders and untouched reverse-side threads. A premier factory variation that is remarkably difficult to find as a loose, unissued piece.
