WWII German Army Qualified Farrier Sleeve Badge - Mint Late-War Felt & Linen Backed Variant (Hufschmied)
An original German WWII specialist career proficiency sleeve badge (Tätigkeitsabzeichen) for a Qualified Army Farrier / Blacksmith (Gepr. Hufschmied / Hufbeschlagpersonal). Farriers held a crucial position within the Wehrmacht, ensuring the transport capability of horse-drawn logistical supply lines.
This specific item is a highly interesting, documented mid-to-late war factory production variation. The iconic golden-yellow horseshoe design is machine-embroidered onto a circular field-gray wool-felt backing. Crucially, the reverse side features its original factory-applied tan / linen stabilization backing.
This mix of materials is highly indicative of late-war production efficiency. The patch is in unissued warehouse condition, straight from a German tailor’s archive (Schneidernachlass), showing light storage glue traces on the reverse paper-lining from historical archiving. A great, textbook factory variant for the specialized insignia collector.
