BDM Leaders Silver Sleeve eagle (Bund Deutscher Mädel Führerinnen-Brustadler)
This is a highly rare and beautifully preserved World War II German cloth insignia featuring the silver rank eagle for high-ranking leaders (Führerinnen) of the Bund Deutscher Mädel (BDM). Meticulously flat-woven in a fine BeVo style, the eagle is executed in striking silver aluminum bullion thread on a crisp white rayon base, centered within a shield-shaped border. The upper margin of the shield prominently displays the woven legal protection mark "Ges. Gesch." (Gesetzlich Geschützt). This specific silver pattern eagle was designated for the white summer tunic and specialized blue leadership attire of Mädelgruppenführerinnen and higher leadership ranks.
This scarce piece originates from a recently discovered German tailor's stock (Kleingewerbe/Schneiderbestand), which comprises a diverse selection of period-authentic insignia, uniform components, and tailoring accessories—some showing contemporary handling or period adjustments, while others remained entirely untouched. The reverse of the patch reveals the clean, unaltered textile weave and intricate silver thread trailing characteristic of high-quality period manufacturing. Unissued and showing only minimal storage age, this exceptional BDM leader's eagle is an incredibly difficult-to-find variant that represents a premier addition to any advanced youth organization or Axis cloth insignia collection.
