Hand-Carved Wooden Statue of Field Marshal Montgomery with his Dog
A highly detailed, hand-carved wooden trench art statue depicting Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery standing with his famous fox terrier puppy. Carved from a single piece of wood including its base, this 18 cm tall figure showcases exceptional craftsmanship with fine details on the uniform, beret, and the dog. Montgomery's signature cane or swagger stick is meticulously fashioned out of metal. The base features carved initials on the top surface. Pieces like this were often crafted by skilled hands within wartime environments, such as Allied prisoner-of-war camps in Germany, or as unique commemorative tokens. During the Normandy campaign, Montgomery famously kept two young dogs at his headquarters—the terrier "Hitler" and a spaniel named "Rommel"—offering a unique personal backstory to this striking piece of military folk art.
