An exceptional, wartime field-modified WWII German military clothing bag (Bekleidungssack 31). While these bags were factory-issued with a single carry handle for transit in unit supply trains, this specific specimen was combat-altered by a soldier or unit tailor who removed the handle and added three robust brown leather attachment loops to the upper reverse. This modification allowed the bag to be worn directly on the combat belt or integrated into field load-bearing equipment as an improvised rucksack. The front flap features another uncommon hardware variation with standard leather straps passing through elongated steel roller buckles to accommodate bulkier loads. Constructed from sturdy olive-drab canvas, the reverse displays a small, honest period field repair to a wear spot.
