Under the name "Sports and Military Competitions" (often also known as "SA Reich Competitions"), the Sturmabteilung (SA) organized paramilitary training events during the Nazi era and World War II. These competitions were not sports in the classical sense, but rather served pre-military training and ideological indoctrination. Mobilization: The competitions were intended to ensure the SA men's readiness for military service and to promote the "soldierly spirit." The exercises were heavily tailored to the demands of combat: orienteering, marching with packs, and camouflage exercises. Weapons handling: small calibers and hand grenade wheels. assault competitions, bicycle patrols, and physical exercises under challenging conditions (e.g., with a gas mask).
