An exceptionally rare, historically significant, and remarkably complete WWII German Luftwaffe Pilot and Aircrew Steel Protective Helmet (Fliegerstahlhelm Baumuster SSK 90). Officially adopted by the Luftwaffe high command on May 8, 1941, wide-scale issuance of this highly specialized helmet was officially halted just 18 days later, on May 26, 1941. This ultra-short 18-day official distribution window makes it one of the rarest headgear pieces of the entire air war.Developed and manufactured by the Siemens Company, the helmet was engineered to provide ballistic protection against shrapnel and gunfire for front-line combat crews. Its interior core consists of interlocking and hinged heavy steel plates.
